This is a major revision of "fm", a binary file modifier.
FM is a curses-based hex/ascii file editor that allows binary file
or device editing. Screen display format is similar to that of "hd".
The file/device may be edited in either hex or ascii modes. Limited
file searching (simple strings - not regular expressions) is allowed.
As well as some minor bug fixes, fm has now been extensively ported to other
systems. It has been known to run on the following platforms:
AT&T unix 3.2.2 and Xenix 2.3.2 (System V / 386)
SunOS 4.0.3 (Sun-3, Sun-4, Sun-386i)
Ultrix 3.1 (DECstation 3100/2100)
News-OS (Sony workstation, OS is a variant of BSD 4.2)
MS-DOS (requires Microsoft C 5.0 and pc-curses, the public-domain
curses package)
FM was originally written by Tony Field (uunet!ajfcal!tony). This release
is from D. Jason Penney (penney@slc.com), with Tony's blessing and cooperation.
Remember, you get what you pay for. The authors are not liable for any bugs
or consequential damages arising from the use of this software. However, they
may fix bugs if they are asked nicely.
