This is a very cool SDL water effect

Water is a four-step process. First, you must create some sort of turbulence in the water, like raindrops. Then, make the height map ripple and move. The effect is really nice.

There are run-time dependencies that need to be installed first. Why not use depothelper to install them all in one go?
