It allows you to select portions of JPEG files
Jslice is designed to read in a JPEG file, and then allow you to select portions of it to be saved as JPEG files. Its used for making WWW pages out of full size JPEG splash screens.

There are run-time dependencies that need to be installed first. Why not use depothelper to install them all in one go?
